Located in Sunset Harbor, local celebrity chef and five-time James Beard Award winner Jose Mendin opened this restaurant. It’s an Italian restaurant that showcases fresh ingredients and old-world scratch-made recipes.
Mendin has partnered with Brooklyn-born chef Santo Agnello, who has been one of the masterminds behind Lucali’s pizza. They’ve drawn on Agnello’s background as well as the location’s history; it’s the former home of Pubbelly, a perennial favorite.
Casa Isola is open for dinner Tuesdays through Sundays. The menu features a variety of dishes for every course, including a dedicated pasta section.
Benh Mi is truly a COVID-19 success story. Its owners started selling classic Vietnamese Banh mi sandwiches on Instagram during the pandemic. They were so good that the venture ballooned into this brick-and-mortar restaurant located off Espanola Way.
At its heart, it’s a sandwich shop, but Benh Mi features several other classic Vietnamese dishes as well as twists on favorites. These include the char siu mushroom Banh mi sandwich, green papaya salad, and vegetable spring rolls.
Benh Mi’s owners pride their business on using local suppliers and farmers for their recipes. They’re also a sustainable eatery.
Strawberry Moon is the newest addition from restaurateurs and entertainers Pharrell Williams and David Grutman, and it’s nothing if not unique. This location has an outdoor pool with a party atmosphere during the day and then transforms into a restaurant and trendy lounge in the evenings and late into the night.
The fact that Strawberry Moon manages to pull all of that off and still wow us with their menu of upscale Mediterranean food says a lot.
Carbone has been serving classic Italian-American food in New York City since 2012, and it has finally arrived for us in Miami Beach. Everything at Carbone–from the decor to the service to the food–will make you feel like you’ve stumbled into an old-school mobster film.
If you want to try for yourself, make sure you plan ahead. Reservations book out at least a month and are virtually impossible to get.
Located in the South of Fifth neighborhood, Abbale Telavivian Kitchen is a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern eatery and cafe. While it was founded by the team that opened such restaurants as Pura Vida, it is as close to an authentic Israeli restaurant that you’ll find outside of the country itself.
Last but certainly not least is Como Como, located on the Moxy South Beach ground floor. The menu focuses primarily on high-end Mexican seafood. It’s open for dinner Wednesdays through Sundays, and the menu features exciting flavors and dishes on a constantly updated menu.
