Yes, We’re OPEN! Scooter Rentals In Miami Beach Now Available

It’s been a crazy past few months for everyone. Now that Florida’s governor has lifted some restrictions beginning June 1st, scooter rentals in South Beach can resume. We’ve missed our local customers and our out-of-town visitors alike, and can’t wait to welcome you back into the shop!

Here’s how we’re keeping our employees and customers safe, and what to expect from your next scooter rental.

Disinfecting Of Scooters

All scooter rentals are disinfected twice: once right before the customer takes it out of the shop, and again as soon as the customer returns it to the shop. If your scooter is delivered to your hotel, it will be disinfected before you take possession of it. All surfaces of the scooters that are touched are disinfected, including the handlebars, brakes, turn signals, mirrors, ignition, seat, and storage baskets.

Increased Cleaning Of Shop

Employees have been trained to increase the frequency of cleaning, and to disinfect all high-touch surfaces between customers. Counters, keypads, pens, door handles, restrooms, and all other touched surfaces are thoroughly cleaned between customers.

Hand Sanitizer

Hand sanitizer is available throughout the shop, including on the counter, at the front door, and in the repair shop for mechanics to use. Customers and employees are encouraged to use hand sanitizer when entering and leaving, and in between social interactions.

Increased Cleaning Of Restrooms

We have increased the frequency of cleaning in our restrooms, and have posted hand-washing guidelines from the CDC. Plenty of hand soap and paper towels are available, and we are requiring employees to wash hands frequently and thoroughly.

Protective Face Coverings

Scooter Style employees and mechanics are wearing masks during all interactions with our customers. We kindly ask customers to wear face coverings when entering Scooter Style unless it adversely affects your health. Once you’re in the open air and on the road, no mask required!

Maintaining Social Distance

We’re reminding employees, mechanics, and customers to please maintain 6′ distance between others while in our shop.

Following CDC Guidelines

We will continue to follow all of the latest CDC guidelines for businesses. If there are any other impacts on customers, the requirements will be posted when entering the shop, and we will let you know when you call to make a reservation.

Keeping You Up-To-Date

If you’re from out-of-state, please keep in mind that Florida has only begun reopening. There may be further restrictions and reduced capacity at the shops, restaurants, and attractions you plan to visit. We recommend calling these places ahead. While in the shop picking up your scooter rental, feel free to talk to the associate helping you, as we may be able to recommend lesser-known spots and scenic drives that will allow you to enjoy your scooter rental while avoiding the crowds!

Reserve Your Scooter Rental In South Beach Today

We can’t wait to see you again soon! Reserve your scooter rental online, or by calling 305-904-8085 today.

Scooter Been Sitting Unused For A While? Here’s How To Get It Running

With the entire state of Florida virtually shut down for 3 months, it’s likely your scooter didn’t get much use. Even our mechanics here at Scooter Style have been slammed getting our fleet up to snuff and road-ready after sitting since March.

If your scooter has been sitting for a while, there are a few things you’ll want to check before taking it out for a spin. If you’re not a DIY-er, don’t forget that both of our locations on 11th St. and Collins Ave. offer scooter repair in Miami Beach.

Check Engine Oil

If your scooter has been sitting unused, it’s unlikely you need to change the oil (unless it was overdue before you parked it). But you should check the oil level and add a bit if necessary.

Check Fuel Tank

Use a flashlight to inspect inside of gas tank, looking for any sediment or water, which would settle to the lowest point in the tank. As a rule of thumb, if the scooter has been sitting used for more than a couple months, empty the fuel tank and refill it.

Check Tires

Visually inspect tires for damage, wear, or dry rot. Use a tire gauge to check the pressure and ensure it’s within the manufacturer’s specified range. Add air if necessary.

Check Screws

Check and tighten all screws, nuts, and bolts. Be sure to check the fasteners on the muffler and exhaust, as well as the front and rear axels.

Check Air Filter

Check and replace air filter if needed. Unless it was overdue prior to sitting, or it’s been stored in a dusty location, it should be fine.

Check Exhaust For Debris

Especially if your scooter has been outside, animals may have made nests in the exhaust. Check the pipe with a flashlight. Also check any other nooks and crannies that could have accumulated debris and clear as needed.

Check Spark Plug

Check to see if the spark plug is loose or if the connections need to be cleaned.

See If Scooter Starts

Press the ignition and see if the engine turns over. After sitting for a while, you may need to crank it for a few seconds to circulate oil. If the scooter starts and the engine is running smoothly, you should be good to go!

If the scooter does not start, is consistently difficult to start (requiring multiple cranks to turn over), or if it starts then stops, or if it stops but the engine is running rough, it could be the spark plug or an issue with compression. A new spark plug is a quick and affordable thing to try, but if you suspect a compression problem, call Scooter Style so we can get you in the shop and take a look.

Scooter Repair In South Beach When You Need It

If scooter maintenance isn’t your thing, no problem! Our scooter mechanics are experienced with working on all types and brands of scooters. What Happens If I Get Pulled Over On My Scooter Rental

You’re cruising around South Beach on your scooter rental when suddenly you see those dreaded flashing lights behind you. No, you’re not imagining it – you can get pulled over and receive driving citations – even on a rental scooter. In fact, in March of 2018 alone, the Miami Police wrote out 450 citations to scooter drivers.

Driving a scooter is relatively simple, but there are still laws that must be abided for your own safety, as well as the safety of other drivers and pedestrians. Below, we’ll discuss the driving citation process and share some of the most common laws broken while driving a scooter, so you can have fun, stay safe, and avoid a ticket!

The Ticketing Process

Getting a ticket on your scooter is not much different than getting a ticket in your car. Essentially, if you are pulled over by an officer, you will need to provide your driver’s license. You’ll also explain that the scooter you’re driving is a rental. [ NEED TO KNOW IF SS REQUIRES INSURANCE IS NOT REQUIRED BUT MANY OF THEIR COMPETITORS DO REQUIRE IT SO NEED TO CHECK FAQ] Just like in a standard traffic stop, the officer will check your driving record and return to you with a citation.

Depending on where you are at the time of the violation, tickets are issued by the Miami Beach Police Department or the North Miami Beach Police Department. If you don’t believe are guilty of breaking the law for which you’ve been issued a citation, you can attempt to appeal the ticket. All traffic and parking violations are ultimately processed by the Miami-Dade County Traffic Court. You can begin the appeal process by calling 305-275-1111. Otherwise, you can pay the fine. Penalties can range depending on the offense.

Rules To Follow

  1. Stay on roads where the speed limit is 30 MPH or less
  2. Do not let anyone who under 16 years of age drive
  3. Be sure any passengers under 16 wear helmets
  4. Do not drive your scooter on the sidewalk – only on authorized roads
  5. Do NOT drive on the yellow traffic line to pass stopped traffic
  6. Do not ride in bicycle lanes

The above does not represent a comprehensive list of laws pertaining to driving your rental scooter. You can learn more about Florida Scooter law here. We are also happy to answer any questions you might have. Requirements regarding the rental of some of our vehicles vary, so call ahead to make sure that you are eligible to rent the model  that you’re interested in.

Rent Safely With Scooter Style

At Scooter Style, your safety and fun are our top priorities! We ensure that you leave the shop with a scooter you are legally allowed to drive. We also conduct a quick onsite training and safety course to make sure you are confident and comfortable driving your scooter rental.

Ready to roll? When you’re ready to make a reservation, call us at 305-904-8085, or fill out our form  to request a rental.

5 Indoor Activities To Beat The Heat In Miami

Miami is known for its great weather – but hot days, especially during the peak of summer, sometimes leave you wishing you could be inside enjoying the A/C. Not to worry – the Miami area has tons of air-conditioned activities, too. Here is how you can make the most of your time in Miami Beach while still keeping cool!

#1 – Ditch The Car & Rent A Scooter Or Golf Cart

There are few things worse than entering a car that has been sitting in the heat, and then waiting 10 minutes for the air conditioning to start to cool you down! On the hottest days, the best choice is to leave your rental car at the shop and pick up a scooter or golf cart for the day. You’ll be in the open air where the “air conditioning” kicks in as soon as you accelerate!

#2 – Soak In Some Culture At The Museums

The Miami area has a number of excellent (air conditioned!) museums for you to enjoy on those days when you’d rather be out of the sun. Check out the Bass Art Museum right on Collins Ave, where you can enjoy displays, lectures, and exhibitions featuring contemporary art. If you’re with the family, The Bass offers an explorer kit, activity guides, and art classes for kids. Nearby in the Art Deco district, visit the Wolfsonian Museum, which contains a collection of over 180,000 objects ranging from “the mundane to the monumental” that document the change in humanity from 1850 to 1950.

#3 – Cool Down With Ice Cream

There’s no better way to cool down than with an icy sweet treat from an ice cream shop – and Miami Beach has no shortage of these! One of our favorites is The Frieze, which has stood the test of time in Miami for over 30 years. The Frieze uses only the finest ingredients in its ice cream and has tons of delicious flavors available. Looking for more choices to satisfy your sweet tooth? Check out this Miami New Times article about the 10 best ice cream shops in Miami.

#4 – Attempt An Escape

Spend the afternoon with friends or family and test your smarts in the South Beach Room Escape! With four different themed rooms, you can choose your challenge. See if you and your friends can follow the clues and conquer the puzzles of each room before time runs out! Call ahead or request an adventure here. After you’re done, enjoy a cocktail on the rooftop bar.

#5 – Catch A Show At The Fillmore

The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theatre has a rich history – and it always has something going on! Originally opening in 1950, the theatre has hosted Frank Sinatra, Jack Benny, and Bob Hope, followed by several Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants in the 1960s. The theatre has undergone several renovations and kept up with the times, now showing some of the biggest names in live entertainment. Check their schedule for upcoming shows!

If the heat’s got you down, don’t despair! Miami Beach has lots to offer regardless of the weather. To book your Scooter Style experience, call us at 305-904-8085, or request a reservation here.

4 Reasons Golf Cart Rental Beats Car Rental In Miami

Are you headed to Miami this summer? You may be inclined to rent a car for your trip. But what if there were a more convenient alternative that allowed you to enjoy the fresh air, park easily, and let you access off-road beach trails? Bonus: some golf carts seat up to 6 people, making them a good fit for family fun. Sounds great, right? Good news – this alternative exists, and it’s easier to arrange than you think. Let us show you why a golf cart rental for your Miami Beach vacation is the best way to get around town!

#1 – Two Convenient Locations, Plus Pick-up / Drop Off

We’ve all waited in a long line at an airport for a car rental. And anything that sucks precious time away from your Miami vacation should be avoided! That’s why Scooter Style offers two convenient options for your rental. You can pick up your golf cart at one of our two Miami Beach locations. Can’t come to us? No problem – we’ll come to you! Call ahead and let us know where youre staying, and we’ll gladly drop your golf cart off at your hotel at a specific time.

#2 – Enjoy The Fresh Air While You Cruise

When you choose the Miami area as your vacation destination, there’s a good chance the weather has something to do with it. So why not soak up every bit of Florida sun and breeze that you can? Renting a golf cart allows you to enjoy the weather even while you drive around. Not sure where to cruise to on your golf cart? Check out this list of 10 can’t-miss spots. Another benefit? There’s no waiting around for your car to cool down – just hop in your golf cart and cool
down when you start driving!

#3 – Easy Parking (in Tight Spaces!)

Miami traffic can get a bit congested, and parking can be its own little adventure. Driving a golf cart, however, can make parking around town a far easier. Our golf carts will fit in even the smallest spots. That parallel space you couldn’t fit in with a car because the jerk in front double parked? Since golf carts are shorter than traditional vehicles, and easier to manipulate, those cramped spots are the perfect fit!

#4 – Access Off-Road Trails

Cruising around the streets of Miami Beach is fun, but the beach trails are incredible! While these trails are prohibited to regular cars, some of them allow the use of golf carts. This is a fun and exhilarating way to explore Miami’s beaches and wildlife. Visit this site to take a look at the trails around North Miami Beach. Call ahead to find out the trail’s rules about golf carts. Ready to trade in your car keys for a set of golf cart keys? We can’t wait to help you out! If you have more questions, check out our blog on everything you need to know about golf cart rentals. Call us at 305-904-8085 to reserve your golf cart now.
